Family Devotions: The Book of Ruth

We revisited the Book of Ruth this morning.  We had a family devotion time on the Book of Ruth several months back but with having an 8 year old, that was a really long time ago for her.  So she wanted to read the story and talk about it again.  Rich read the story out of her Children's Bible.  We all love this story.  Rich really focused on Ruth 2: 11 & 12 which says,

11 Boaz replied to her, “All that you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband has been fully reported to me, and how you left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and came to a people that you did not previously know. 12 May the Lord reward your work, and your wages be full from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to seek refuge.”

We were reflecting on the fact that Ruth left all behind to follow God.  She left her family and material possessions.  She was willing to take on poverty and trust in the Lord for her care.  Such an amazing story of faith.  We also thought how this must of shaped King David's life as Ruth was his great grandmother.

For worship, instead of going to You Tube to find some songs, we had our daughter bring out her guitar and play a little bit.  She has just started lessons so she didn't know too many chords, but what she lacked in knowledge she made up for in enthusiasm!

We closed in prayer asking God to continue to guide us and help us to not let anything get in the way of us following Him whole hearted.
